Basic information about the medical organization

• The history of the clinic of the Institute of Rheumatology began in the fall of 1958, when the Institute of Rheumatism of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences was first established. At the time of the opening, the clinic had three rheumatology departments with 90 beds: rheumatology, department of infectious nonspecific polyarthritis, and department of "borderline forms".
• In the 1960s-70s, most hospitalized patients had rheumatism and rheumatic heart defects. Over time, the patient profile shifted, with rheumatism being replaced by other rheumatic diseases such as infectious nonspecific arthritis (now rheumatoid arthritis) and collagenoses (now systemic connective tissue diseases).
• In 1982, the Institute was renamed the Institute of Rheumatology of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences.
• With the development of Russian rheumatology, a new clinical building designed for 300 beds was commissioned in 1988. For the first time, all previously established structures of the Institute were united in one building, and new divisions were added. The Institute included adult rheumatology departments, a children's rheumatology department, and an orthopedics and traumatology department. Modern laboratories were created, including clinical-diagnostic, immunological, pathomorphological, and functional diagnostics laboratories, as well as an X-ray department, physiotherapy department, pharmacy, and food department. At the turn of the 20th-21st centuries, a clinical research laboratory was opened. The scope of the Institute's scientific activities continually expanded. In 2006, the first Russian center for therapy with genetically engineered biological drugs was established.
• In 2012, the Institute was renamed the V.A. Nasonova Scientific Research Institute of Rheumatology.
• In recent years, significant attention has been given to transitioning the Institute to an electronic medical documentation system. Since 2018, the Institute has been registered in the Telemedicine Information System of the Ministry of Health of Russia to provide telemedicine consultations using remote technologies. This effective tool allows consultations for patients from other medical organizations to be conducted within a short timeframe (from a few hours to 5 days) by highly qualified staff.
• Over its more than 60-year history, the Institute of Rheumatology has made significant strides, allowing it to take pride in its successes and achievements. The Institute continues to honor the longstanding traditions established by the founders of Russian rheumatology.
• Currently, the Institute's clinic includes five rheumatology departments for adult patients, a children's rheumatology department, a traumatology and orthopedics department for adult patients, a day hospital, a consultative and diagnostic center, instrumental and laboratory diagnostics departments, and a rehabilitation department.
